What is Every One Eats?

A good question!  We are a local charity that provides a minimum of two free community events a year, one being a Christmas Day meal for members of the community, to combat isolation and loneliness and promote positive mental health.  Added to this, we also run a food bank too.

Our History – When the 75th Anniversary VE celebrations were cancelled in May 2020, we decided if people couldn’t come to the party, we would take it to them and took out over 300 lunch picnic bags to the elderly in the Erewash area.  The feedback was so moving, we realised how important mental health is, and just a free lunch bag really cheered people up.  So with a grant from the National Lottery, over the next 9 months, we took out over 7,000 free lunch bags.

We never aimed to have a food bank, but because of the lunch bags being such a success people were contacting us asking for help.  Our food bank is a bit different to others, as our amazing volunteers bring the food to the person’s door step.  We started the ‘Food Bank To You’ during lockdown (with tins, packets and boxes of food plus toiletries), as people were struggling to buy food let alone pay bills.  Recently, people are struggling due to the ongoing rise in energy bills and the cost of living.  We know this has had a knock-on effect with people’s mental health too.

We try and promote healthier eating and families cooking together, so we have run several successful “pop up” events where we have provided meal kits.  Thanks to a grant from the National Lottery, we now also run at the Flamsteed Centre on Albert Street in Ilkeston a monthly free warm space, on the third Saturday of the month, this includes a free hot lunch and pudding plus various games and bingo, starting from 11am and finishing by 3pm.
